THE DUDE ABIDES
I'm thinking of Wendall on the 75th anniversary of his birth. He was a good man. I'm glad he had such a fun, peaceful, golf-filled retirement. I'm glad he got to go back to Georgia and enjoy his cousins and his friends. If we could do it without depression and alcohol, I wouldn't mind coming back to start that life next time. From wedding to death. Do we go around again? As marriages go, it was petty good. We were always on the same side and had each other's backs. (to use an expression that shall now be put on the list of forbidden phrases) And look at all the cool kids and grand-kids that resulted from Wendall. I am most grateful for and proud of these offspring. I am glad he was able to go when he was ready. As usual, Shakespeare had a work or two:
"Give me my Romeo; and when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine,
That all the world shall be in love with night,
And pay no worship to the garish sun.---"
