Robbery, Electricity, Town Criers

A doctor's office in Quepos, which I have visited twice, was robbed yesterday by 3 ladrones (robbing, thieving, general all round bad guys) who arrived in a pirate taxi (the ones you flag down on the road who only charge a dollar to go where ever). The men were armed and robbed the office of about $400.00 (equiv.) and robbed 6 patients of cell phones, wallets and cash. They departed in another pirate taxi or a private car, depending on who's telling the story. the photo is the doctor's office, a converted garage.

What else? The electricity was off when I got up so I went over to the local Cafe Milagro, which they had no juice either, but made  me coffee and toast by third world magic. Fire, I suspect.

Later, in Quepos, I saw (heard) one of those old cars that drive around with giant speakers on their tops, the ones  that pitch local establishments at earsplitting levels . The announcement for today was: ICE--the monopoly electric company here--says all electricity will be off between 1:30 and 2:30 today. This repeated at full volume as the car drove up and down the streets of Quepos.
I thought it  was kind of cool. The "town crier" is an effective means of notifying the people of important matters.
Sure enough, while I was on Skype at around 2PM the electricity went off. But, forewarned, I took it in stride and went out to rest in the sun. I say rest because I don't remember the rules for lay, lie etc and am too lazy to look it up.
I say, bring back town criers. ..and lamplighters. Carrier pigeons?
