Location: Brown County, Indiana State Park. Abe Martin Lodge, Room 308.
12 Hiking Trails: 2 easy, 7 Moderate, 3 Rugged. Maintained, but not blazed. Easy to get lost, at least for me.
Arrived 5:30PM tonight. July 16, 2012. I made the reservation online at 2PM today and took the only room available in the Lodge. Luckily it was the cheapest too.
I immediately left my things in my room and went out to hike a moderate 1.0 mile trail. By the time I finished, I had gone 2 miles, including down and up 168 stone slab steps. (Remember the part about getting lost?)
Down causes more shakiness in the knees and thighs, but up resulted in what might have been an alarming elevation in heart rate after the first 50 steps. Pounding in the ears, gasping (sort of), but I knew I was in horrible shape so I expected it. I was encouraged because after I rested on step 100 for a few minutes everything was back to normal. So I at least haven't lost my recovery ability.
It rained some during the hike, but the tree canopy protected me. 58 minuted, door to door.
Back in N GA I remember hiking 14 miles on the App Trail in one day, a rough hike, and feeling fine. This hike was on an empty stomach. Just coffee in the AM., so I am happy with this time, after all these months of sitting. That was then and this is now. And it is my firm intention to get it back.
After a dinner of grilled whitefish and a salad and 4 glasses of water in the dining room I lay on the picnic table in front of the lodge and enjoyed the hot but not too hot evening. It is really cold inside. I turned off the air in my room and opened the 2 windows.)
I am so happy to be here. I needed this soooo bad.
In the dining room and in the hallways and on the grounds are many bicyclists, male, young, gorgeous and all wearing the logo shirts of some team somewhere.
In the dining room, however, there were tons of really obese families and couples waddling through the food bar. They don't look like wilderness park types. I wonder if they were just here for the food bar. All the food is very reasonable in price. My meal was $12.00 plus tip, which is far less that what I have seen in other State Park Lodge dining rooms.
I don't know where the bikers ate. I feel happy, invigorated and relaxed. Thank goodness for money.
Maybe more tomorrow.

Yesterday 2 miles on pavement.
Today 3 miles on pavement. 7/18/12
The excitement for today is that I have managed to download e-books from the Marion County Library. I put them on my Kindle for reading in bed and they stay for 21 days and then
de-activate. How cool is that.
Got my fitbit, a device that clips to bra or shorts and records steps, stairs equivalent, calories. Sync to computer site to read. Today, in my 3 miles, I climbed the equivalent of 18 flights of stairs. I love hills, after they are done. Tomorrow I will see how much those 165 steps count for. I'm not leaving til next Wed, the 25th.
I hope this trip has revived you like you wanted.
Well, um, actually, after our visits on Sunday I was bored, so I packed up and went back to Ivy's. BUT only two weeks from Friday I move downtown. I got an air mattress, a beautiful "Shabby Chic" sheet set and duvet from Target and a white wicker stool from Goodwill. I'm ready.
