I tried not to believe it was because of his color. I thought we had grown aaway from that. But, by now, it seems to me to be the only possible explanation for such loathing.
I have heard open racists speak with curled lips about blacks. I know the sound. I know mostly we/they hide their strong emotions in this matter until we/they are with others deemed our equals in antagonism.
I know the plethora of people of black, brown, tan, turban wearing, dotted forehead participants in the DEM convention must grate on the last nerve of the people who see themselves victims of the progress of those they see as the other.
I can picture a woman feeling outraged by the presence and obvious admiration granted Michele by the public.
Why else would a prime goal, above all else, have been to get rid of a man who had just been elected?
I have heard pundits and news-people puzzle over this hatred. Surely racism occurs to other people, but no one I have seen or heard in the media has mentioned this possibility.
Have we all tacitly agreed to pretend this obvious unwarranted hatred has no other cause than political opposition?
I
I have come to believe it is racism. I think they do not want a black man--or a black woman--in the White House. I think they are shocked, embittered, angry and frustrated. The old world of special privilege for whites is gone. I suspect the same people who want to cancel Rowe v Wade would also like to bring back Jim Crow and Whites Only. I understand it, I'm sorry for it. I don't know what to do to solve it.
