The neighbors have figured it out.

One person died in a one-car crash around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday on Indianapolis' far east side.

Witnesses say a woman saw her car being stolen, and jumped into a second car to chase after the thief. During the chase, both cars left the road and the victim crashed into a tree in the 100 block of Delbrick Lane on the far east side. She was declared dead at the scene.

The thief in the original car abandoned it on the roadside and ran away.

Neighbors believe they know what happened.
"One vehicle (was) chasing another vehicle that apparently was stolen and the owner of the vehicle she was chasing," said Paula Meadors. "Two cars collided. She's now deceased and the driver of the car stolen, I guess, got out of the car and ran."
