Today there was a cook-out on the patio outside the dining room. It was a perfect day. The residents from Assisted Living were trundled over to join us here in Independent Living and a fine time may have been had by all.
I ate quickly, as is my wont, and proceeded to circulate among the festive-ish crowd, cheering the lame and the halt and bucking up the spirits of those who couldn't see or hear by waving wildly and putting my face very close to theirs while grinning inanely. Some had no response, but mostly I think I was a hit.
Due to a lack of foresight on the part of the staff there were more tables--in the sunshine-- than there were umbrellas. Those residents parked in the sun appeared somewhat wilted at times, but I'm sure they benefited from the vitamins provided thereby.
There was one moment, as I studied the assembled people, that I felt the ugly reality of nursing homes. Called by many other names, they remain a repository for those who have passed their use-by date.
Not ugly in a pejorative way. Life, seen clearly, has its ups and downs, its pretty and ugly, etc. Many of my friends here have agreed that this is a wonderful place and we are very fortunate to be able to live here. Age is marvelous, but one can have too much of a good thing.
No one choked or fell down or threw up, as far as I know, and it was a great party except for the lack of a keg.
IDK how long it has been since Aggie came here and we bought me a new laptop with W 10. When Daph was here it was okay and I thought I could do it.
But alas, alone I was a foggy minded fumble fingered failure. Fie! (excerpted from Celebrate Your Penchant For Alliteration and Bemuse Your Correspondents , an article that would have been in the N Yer if they appreciated really good stuff.
Yesterday I had a whole free day. No classes, no exercise, no race on TV. I decided to give W10 another try. I opened the new laptop with W10, pretending like I had no fear and knew what I was doing. Slam, bang, click. I connected it to the net, downloaded Open Office, connected an external disc to it and uploaded my files.
This took time, you understand, it wasn't magical or anything, but I had coffee and pep pills and, inspired by current political sloganeering, I PERSEVERED.
Now I have 2 laptops and can work them both. Sounds blah, I know, to them as gots seventeen electronic dohickies and flying fingers, but around here I am known as the electronic wizard who can also treat injuries and diagnose ailments. So there's that.
I have let both my licenses expire so I am no longer liable if I damage a stranger on the street in an zealous attempt to stop bodily bleeding--or whatever.
sad song to come. And, because, after all, it is Memorial Day, this:
memories of Georgia

That's pretty cool. As is the rest.
Great stuff. Funny stuff. Thank you for that. By the way, yes, that is how it works: if you drive without a license, any accidents are automatically somebody else's fault.
