Summer Doings at the Home

Half an hour ago  I'm coming through the lobby after driving to Walgreen's to buy chips and drumsticks and Diet Cokes. Saturday night coming up and all.
There is a harpist lady playing to an audience of 6 people and 14  empty chairs. She has been here before and is avoided by even those with nothing else to do. The one time I heard her she was playing for one of our Thursday afternoon Happy Hours--yes, beer and wine-- and we were chatting happily, which was the point of the hour--and, I suspect, the point of the special refreshing beverages.
At one point Harp Lady stopped, glared and asked a group of us to go in the other room if we were going to talk. Her performance is mostly enlightening us about current trends in electronics and what kids do today that is different  from what we did back in the dark ages.
So, today I hear her ask the audience-- Anybody here sing in a choir?  Silence.  Anyone sing in a choir in school? Silence. On, well, you're probably too old to remember it anyway. Silence. A couple of them look at each other and shrug. So help me. I came straight up here to write it down so I know I didn't imagine it.

On a more exciting note, Chuck is having a birthday party in the Fourth Floor Card Room. His family, about 8 of them, was or were  carrying in coolers and boxes of treats as I was coming in. Seems the birthday party is today at 4 PM, but no on knew about it. I guess it was Chuck's job to announce it and either Chuck forgot or no one I know is invited.
Chuck is the one who ran Beverly down after Vespers a few weeks ago, bouncing her across the hall and breaking her hip. They had to fish Beverly's loafers out from under Chuck's scooter. Until yesterday Beverly didn't remember anything about what happened except that "That Chuck ran me down. He came at me as hard as he could and hit me."
Beverly is getting better, but still has a hate on for Chuck.  Remember Chuck, he will feature in later publications.

A week ago, Denise got married in the gazebo.  The bride wore cowboy boots and the groom wore a Stetson and was too shy to kiss the bride. They both have been married before and have grown kids. A good time was had by all. The wedding was scheduled for 4 PM and finally took place at 6 PM. Fortunately Vic got the electricity fixed by 5 and the rain didn't start until after 6:30. The happy couple are  on a honeymoon cruise to Alaska.

And that's today's news from ..searching for a name like Lake Woebegone.  Westside Goobers' Garden?
