Mostly long fast strides. At the end a few chugs faster than a walk but not as fast or loose as a jog. Fear of falling in public is a biggie.
I remember how it felt in Brown County after Dick and Joellen and Wen and I came in from a cross country ski run in the fields of the park. Cold ears, cold hands, cold feet, but glorious sense of accomplishment and joy. Another 20 and I may seriously try jogging again.
I was playing jitterbug music to give me pep to move furniture and after that was done I thought of walking. The rule, if I think of it I have to do it now, applied, so tank top and t shirt notwithstanding, out I went. Quick. The cold was a factor in my hustle. I didn't want to chicken out because of the cold before I got all the way around. Heck, I say to myself, as I keep on going, I grew up cold. I can do this.
JoJo and I used to walk downtown to get the tree on Christmas Eve and carry it back. When he went out of town to do typewriter cleaning etc. sometimes I'd go with. Took a bus from Lexington and State downtown to catch a bus to whatever small town we were going to that day. I can recall standing at that Lexington bus stop waiting for the bus and not being able to feel my feet except for the pain of cold.
Today I thought of that and saw those times as sort of like being training for a tiny bit of stoicism later in life.
Just rambling, but felt like saying to someone, I did that and it felt wonderful. Love you guys.💪💪
